Closing the Financial Literacy Gap for a Stronger Delaware
YourMoney101 advocates for the inclusion of a mandatory capstone financial literacy course in high school and prior to the completion of a student’s post-secondary education. In addition, YM101 partners with nonprofit and for-profit organizations to further the impact of financial literacy on the communities in which they serve.
Over the past 18 months, YourMoney101 has partnered with State Representative Jeff Hilovsky and financial literacy leaders from the University of Delaware to champion House Bill 203, legislation that ensures every Delaware high school student has access to essential financial education.
While HB203 was not brought to a vote in 2024, our collective efforts led to the passage of House Resolution 31, which called for a statewide study on the implementation of existing K–12 financial literacy standards. The resulting report, delivered to the Governor in May 2025, revealed critical gaps: inconsistent implementation across districts, curriculum misalignment, limited resources, and persistent challenges in access.
These findings reaffirm the urgency of HB203, and momentum is building. The proposed legislation will be presented at the House Education Committee meeting on Wednesday, June 11 at 3:00 p.m.
YourMoney101 remains committed to ensuring financial literacy becomes a reality for all Delaware students.
